Carmen Radulescu - Brighton Designer
Born in Romania, Carmen spent her childhood in Europe and northern Africa. Her love of classic European architecture and Moroccan artisan elements are hugely influential on her work, including her Ferrara Collection designs.
How would you describe your designs?
My designs are classic with an artisan flair. Textures of hammered or carved metals are layered on symmetrical classic patterns.
Does your heritage influence your designs?
I was born in Romania and spent the next 17 years on two continents – Europe and Northern Africa. My love for classic architecture and artisan elements from those places are a huge influence on my work.
What’s your background?
I studied industrial design at the University of Illinois, then started my career designing home accessories: tabletop, home décor, and residential lighting.
Favorite artist? Constantin Brancusi for his minimalistic sculptures in marble, bronze and stone. The pieces depict simple geometric lines and yet have so much symbolism.
Who inspired you?
My mother was a very talented architect and traveled the world with me. She taught me to appreciate the beauty of classic architecture and how the best inspiration can come from nature.
