Kim Cruser-Scott - Brighton Designer
Kim Cruser-Scott believes accessories design is a constant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable. She searches her personal style, historical elements and worldly experiences for her visual language. You may know her from one of her most popular collections, the Meridian Collection.
Where do you live?
I live in Boise, Idaho, with my two young daughters. We love the outdoor lifestyle and local organic farms.
What’s your background?
After getting my B.F.A. at Parson School of Design, I ran my own graphic business, working on small projects for the L.A. History Museum, Walt Disney Studios, and others. Then, as an assistant art director for a fashion magazine, I fell into the fashion world, creating three-dimensional objects. I loved working with dimensional hardware and leather artisans, so Brighton was the next natural fit.
How did you come to Brighton?
Initially, I freelanced in the graphics department. I loved the possibility of pursuing all of my passions at one family-owned company. It was a wonderful intro to Brighton and has grown into a two-decade career.
Favorite artist?
Salvador Dali – I especially love his jewelry; he wasn’t limited by paint alone.
How do you cure creative block?
I move to another collection in the line – each one has different visual elements. It’s like moving to a new country for the moment and communicating in a new language.
